Howdy. My name is Micah Beckley and I’m doing something crazy.
I’m a young writer. If you’re a young writer too, you may have heard that NaNoWriMo shut down. Bummer. But it hasn’t taken long for proactive individuals and organizations to start filling the gap. Note the plural.
I am signed up for TWO Writing Month Events this year: Crazy Writing Month in October and Jesus Writing Month in November.
After signing up for these two Writing Month Events, I made an ambitious goal. The goal is to complete a full novel draft (approx. 60K words) each month. You read that right, TWO novel drafts FINISHED before the end of the year. I have two months to prepare, then I’m going for it.
I am planning to create posts (at least once a week) about my progress, as well as tips and advice on preparing for a Writing Month Sprint/Event. If you would like to be notified when those come out please let me know by subscribing at the bottom of this post.
Two completed drafts is AMAZING to think about and I’m super excited to begin preparing, but then I had another crazy idea.
Invite others to join me.
Imagine 4 novel drafts ready for revision, editing, and launch in 2026. If just one person joins me and we both succeed, that will be the result. But what if more join? What if 50 young writers who have never finished a draft before finish TWO this year? That’s almost enough books to release two per week in 2026! You want to hear the number I’m bold enough (or crazy enough) to write down though?
10,000 young authors completing 20,000 full novel drafts. Sounds ambitious huh? It is. But I believe very strongly this is only a fraction of the young, aspiring writers who would jump at the opportunity to TRY if only they hear about it.
I created this challenge for myself because I needed the push and I shared this challenge because I needed peer pressure to contribute to the push. Now ambitious goals are being made by young writers all over the globe.
What is your ambitious goal?
If you would like to join me and be a part of this challenge, comment down below with your goal and share this post with your writer friends. Then ask them to share it with their writer friends. Then go check out Crazy Writing Month and JesusWriMo.
NOTE: You don’t have to make a goal of 2 complete novel drafts. Make YOUR OWN ambitious (but possible) goal. Your goal doesn’t even have to be a novel. It doesn't even have to be fiction. If you're planning to participate in either one or both of these Writing Month Events, I would love for you to let me know.
If you would like to be notified for announcements, encouragement posts, advice and tips related to Project Double Draft subscribe down below.
If you want to join the street team and promote this challenge on your platforms or socials let me know! I’m planning to post about this on my WordPress and Substack sites as well as on X.com and YouTube but I need help. If you want to join, comment down below so we can set it up.
One last thing. I’m planning to create a poll/survey in December to find out how many novel drafts Project Double Drafters complete. If you want to be notified when the survey goes out and/or when I announce the results, subscribe below.

I am very interested in doing this with you!! I might only be able to finish one draft… but as I’ve already finished one this year, I think it’ll be okay. My college/work/sports schedule is crazy, but I just might be able to squeeze in some writing!
Thank you so much for doing this Micah! My goal is to finish drafting my current novel-in-progress and once I manage that, I'll set a new goal related to working on the second draft (:
